When it is Hortobagy, it is not only birds. Patting a horse is a true magical moment every time. 

From March we hosted volunteers teams again, just like in the previous years, the groups of volunteers helped the nature protection work of the Bird Hospital and the Animal Park till October, each team for a period of 46 days. All of the groups start their activities with group building activities and an orientation meeting. There is a real baby boom during the spring months, our volunteers took special care of the new creatures. 

The Easter programs for children really needed all the helping hands. The month of April with the spring waves brought new smells, colours and inspired our media team to take photos of them.

Bird watching and bird ringing are special activities that all bird lovers wants to try our during their volunteering activities.The spring renovations and maintenance works can help to protect the wooden outdoor furniture of the park. There is a vivid international life at the university of Debrecen, the media team reported on the cultural programs with delight. 

Summer is a busy period in Hortobagy, the volunteers helped a lot in order to save more lives. The power of the community, the volunteers of the Empowered by Nature volunteer team members are handling the wheel-barrel, the drill or any other tools professionally. We made the look out tower prettier on the occasion that the Animal Park was hosting the competition of shepherds. The biggest event in Debrecen is the flower carnival on 20^th August, the media team also reported on the flower covered town. After the large-scale events of the summer, it was high time to make a deep cleaning at the accommodation of the volunteers. We said thank you and farewell to our media team in the youth Center of Debrecen. 

The invisible – or less visible works, like the cleaning and reorganising – help the bird saving work of the Bird Hospital a lot. This is how we released the cured birds back to nature. In October we facilitated the on-arrival meeting of the international volunteers living in Hungary in cooperation with the Tempus Public Foundation. 

Nature gets more quiet in November, our volunteers did English lessons in the local primary school of Hortobagy 

One of our new members participated at an international training course in Norway and brought home some new methods that we can use in our future trainings. We got an early snow this year, but it did not stop our volunteers from doing their work. We finished the year with work and not only the physical activities, but the power of the community that kept us warm too.
